Taking A Break

It's not you...it's me...

I have been debating about this a lot today!!!

I really enjoy blogging and looking at all the other blogs that I follow. It's something that I find makes me happy through out my day. I love the whole process of taking pictures and writing the posts.

However, lately I find myself with so much to do and not enough time in the day.

With the warm weather here, we are spending more time outside.

I also have a few big projects that I am working on that I need to get done.

I need to focus on the addition. It has been almost a year that my Dad and I started this project and I just want to get it done. I decided to get on the scaffolding and do the spackling and sanding myself despite my fear on heights. I have to get it done!!!! I know I am so close but I need to focus on that project.

I am also starting my own vegetable and herb garden. I want to try and grow enough to grow most of our produce for the summer and fall.

I also need to spend time with the kids, taking care of the house, myself, and any other projects that comes my way. I am not saying good-bye for good just for a little bit.

Once I figure out how to fit blogging into my daily schedule I will be back!!!

Try not to miss me too much!!!!!

Seeds

A couple of weeks ago the kids and I started some of our seeds for the garden. I am always trying new ways to start our seeds. Since we eat a lot of egg whites at our house, I thought I would try using egg shells to start our seeds.
We saved the egg shells and egg cartons.
Of course we didn’t have enough egg shells and cartons. So we are going to need to eat more eggs. LOL!!!!!

We started tomatoes, mixed peppers, and beans!!! The beans are already sprouting!!! Yippy. I better get into gear on building our new veggie bed. Hopefully, it stops raining long enough to build the garden bed.
I hope that you had a great weekend!!!!

Roses

This weekend we are hosting a pre-Passover Seder for my family. We haven't seen each other since January 1st. Too long!!!

Anyway, yesterday the kids and I headed out to the Lehigh Valley Area to do food shopping and some other errands.

While in that area, I stopped by Produce Junction. Cheap produce.

They also sell flowers for a great price.

I decided to get some flowers to decorate the house for the Passover Dinner.

There is seriously a lot of flowers. I got all these flowers for $8.00!!!

I am not planning to make the arrangements until Friday afternoon. Ballerina is looking forward to helping me. Should be so much fun!!!

All of these flowers remind me of a time that Tommy and I picked over 100 tulips from my neighborhood.

It was after our freshman year in college, I think it was our first weekend home for summer vacation. Tommy and I had already gone to a dinner and movie. It was probably 11:00 pm and we were use to staying up really late so we were trying to decide what to do next. We were just driving around in my Dodge Charger, when I pulled over, got out of the car, and picked a tulip. Well picking that tulip led to driving around and taking turns getting out of the car and picking tulips. My car was full of tulips. It was the funniest thing to us. It was after 1:00 when we decided to call it quits and go back to my house. After we unloaded all the tulips we had to get them into water. So Tommy and I searched high and low looking through my Mom's cabinets for things to put the tulips in. It probably took another hour to arrange the tulips in their new vases.

The next morning when my family came downstairs they were surprised with a house full of tulips.
We all laughed about our little adventure and then we decided we were lucky that we didn't get caught.

We did not go into any one's yard to pick the flowers we picked them from common areas of the development.

To this day tulips is something that brings a smile to my face. That is why I LOVE the flowers so much.

Picking over a hundred flowers and taking a security guard's golf cart for a joy ride (from Fairleigh Dickinson) was one of the worse things I've ever done. That is a story for a different time!!!!!

I know I am a Miss Goody Two Shoes!!! That's why Tommy and I fit together so well!! HAHAHAHA

These roses fell off their stems. Rather then throw them out I filled up a bowl of water and placed the flowers in the bowl. Instant centerpiece for the coffee table.

Check back next week to see how Ballerina and I arranged the flowers.

I will be busy cooking  and spreading the rest of my ten yards of mulch over the next couple of days. So I wish you all a very Happy Weekend!!!

I'm hoping that they are wrong about the weekend weather!! My favorite local Flea Market opens this weekend!!!

Gone Camping

With all this rain we've been having I decided to let the kids go "camping".

That's right "Camping"...

I am running out of things to do with the kids.

We've been talking about taking the kids camping this summer so...

Tommy told me that since I was heading to Wal-Mart to pick up a little tent for the kids. (Best suggestion EVER)!!!!!!

Photobucket
The Kid's tent!! Of course we had to get the turquiose tent. It was that or orange. YUCK!!!

Photobucket
We already had the chairs but the kids were using them to sit at the picnic table.

The back of the tent.

The picnic table with the kid's snack. Since we can't have a fire in the house, I had to come up with a way to make smores. I poured some Golden Grahams, mini marshmellow, and chocolate chips into a bowl.

The kids eating the yummy snack!!!

So Yummy!!! I don't usually let the kids eat upstairs, but since they were camping I had to bend the rules a little bite.

Photobucket
The kid's lunch. I needed to come up with something not so messy. So cheese and crackers, and some other goodies!!

The kids played upstairs all day. I was even asked to leave them alone, but it didn't stop me from going in from time to time to scare them by pretending I was a bear. ROAR!!!!

Since the kids had such a great time in the tent and they asked nicely, I let them actually sleep in the tent last night.

Photobucket

The tent all set up for the kids. Sleeping bags, pillows, dolls, and flashlights.

The kids ready for their big night "camping". Please don't ask where Speed Racer's shirt is. He is going through a phase...he doesn't want to wear a shirt to bed.

I told the kids that if the weather is nice on Friday we will pitch the tent outside for the day.

They are really looking forward to real camping this summer.
We're just practicing now!!!

Master Bedroom

Remember a few weeks ago, I told you that decorating with prom gowns and other gowns are all the rave. Well I went straight down to my basement and dug up some of my old gowns.

I thought I would show you how I used them as decorations and give you a little tour of our bedroom.

Photobucket

Here is our bed. I have been asked not to have flower bedspreads. I try to honor that request. I try to stick to solid bedspreads. However, for Spring I decided on a ruffle bedspread.
At the foot of our bed is our ottoman from downstairs. It doesn't match our new sofa so I had Tommy move it upstairs for me. It gives us extra storage and a place to display our down comforter. This time of year can be cold one night and hot the other night.

Photobucket

I love pillows. I actually sleep with three pillows. I have a pillow that I've had since I was a  kid. I know gross, but I clean it and let it sit in the sun. I can't sleep without!!! I've tried!!!!

Photobucket

Where I store my pearls. Why should I put them away. They're too pretty to hide.

Photobucket

I just love the pearls in my turquoise pot. (Still obsessed with the color turquoise)

Photobucket

I like to have lavender next to me in bed just in case I have a hard time sleeping. I pick a sprig and rub it and then the lavender smell fills the air!!

Photobucket

See the turquoise is popping up everywhere in my house. I am even wearing it almost everyday too!!

Photobucket

Tommy's desk chair is now a storage place for our white linens. I haven't been able to wear those boots since before kids. I can't get rid of them so I use them as decorations!!!

Photobucket

Our fireplace. No it's not real!!! Our wing back chair is decorated with one of my prom dresses. I wore this my sophomore and senior year. Ballerina has already decided she will wear this gown to her prom. I am going to remind her that!!! LOL!!! I loved this dress.

Photobucket

Fireplace mantel. Ten years ago I decided I was going to collect vintage hats. I think I have four or five. This is one of my favorite hats. Perhaps, because it has some hydrangeas on the hat.

Photobucket

Another shot of my peach gown. I think I have always loved lace!!!

Photobucket

Our Spring/Summer curtains. I like light and sheer curtains. I don't like sleeping the day away in the warmer months. I am up at daybreak.

Photobucket

Tommy's desk. It's a secretary that we inherited along with most of all of our furniture. This gown I wore to my 8th grade dinner dance. I would actually wear this now if it fit. If I could sew I would make this two pieces and wear the top as a blouse and the bottom as a skirt!!
Also in this picture is a picture of me and my brothers. To the left of that picture is a picture of my Maternal Grandmother-Bubbie.

Photobucket

I used this old gate to display and store my necklaces. I love to accessorize!!!

Photobucket

Our french settee. We inherited this from Nana's sister in law (along with all the other furniture in our room and house). I really like the chair. For many years I couldn't stand the color and material. But now I am obsessed with the color I want to move this piece downstairs. For now it holders my pearls.

Photobucket

Here is another gown. I wore this to my prom senior year. For some reason I wanted a cream color dress.
Tommy seems to be ok with all the dresses on display. He was a little skeptical at first thinking we would wake up in the middle of the night thinking someone was there. But I displayed them in a way that it wouldn't look like a person.

Photobucket

This is a mirror that Tommy gave me as my wedding present. As if marrying him wasn't enough of a gift for me. When Tommy and I first met as friends he broke my hand held peach mirror. I was so afraid that I would have 7 years of bad luck. Guess what I didn't!! I had seven years of pure bliss with Tommy. On our wedding day he had someone give me this and a little note that said "I promised you I would replace that mirror that I broke seven years ago."He's such a romantic guy!!!
I can't wait to give him a big smooch tonight when he gets home.

Photobucket
Here is a picture of our armoir. It stores all of our toiletries and some of my many accessories.
On top I threw Ballerina's dance recital tutu from last year.

I know you are wondering where is Tommy's stuff ... well this isn't his blog. LOL!!!!!!

Hope you enjoyed a little tour of our room!!!

Love,
Janine

New Purse

It's really starting to feel like Spring here. We spent most of the weekend outside!! I love being outside with the kids.

Hopefully the fog burns off soon so we can go outside to play and do some much needed yard work!!

On Friday, the kids and I took our weekly trip to Wal-Mart to get a few things for the house.

We walked around the store for a while exploring sections I usually don't shop in. With Spring here I needed a new Spring purse that is conducive for my (our) life. Low and behold I found it at Wal-Mart for $10 bucks!!

031

I love how big the bag is and it has a lot of pockets to help keep me organized!!

032033034035

Look at all that storage. The bag also has pockets on the side for my magazines that I can read if I am waiting someplace for a few minutes.

The bag is also a great color that matches EVERYTHING!!!!

I needed a bag that has a lot of room for extra water, snacks, wipes for dirty faces, money, my camera, and makeup!!

Its hard being a woman!!!

I also found some great bandanas at Wal-Mart. They were a dollar.

036

I just love the color!! I thought I would tie it to my new purse!!

I think I might have to go and get some more and find a place to decorate with them. Some of my favorite colors are in the scarf.

Anyhoo…

I took some pictures of the family over the weekend.

He had the opportunity to spend some time on the Lake with family and friends.

I love taking pictures of my family!!!

I hope you had a great weekend!!

Love,

Janine
