Twas The Night Before

Pre-K and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse.
Hahaaha that's a joke.

The kids are so excited to go to school. I kept them outside all day playing so they would be so tired for bed.
I on the other hand sit here by myself worried, scared, anxious, sad, and yet happy!!
This will be the first time I have EVER left the kids with someone who is not family.

I am a control freak and having the kids with me all the time allows me to control what is going on in their life. I know that's not a good thing because I have to let them spread their wings and fly. It's just hard!!! I know millions of parents are taking their kids to school for the first time, but how many of them are doing it with twins?

I know that the kids will love school. I know that they will make friends and have fun learning!!
I am so happy that they have each other at school!!

Exactly five years ago today, I began my adventure as a stay at home mom.
Five years ago today I said good bye to my old life as a Director of Activities, shopping weekly at Home Goods, and being my own individual person. I was put on bed rest to carry these kids to term. Which I did!! Good job me and all those people that watched and took care of me during that time.

For the past five years my WHOLE life has been these precious kids!!! I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to stay home and raise our kids. I am very fortunate!!!!

Now, I have nine hours a week for just me. What will I do with myself?
Stay tuned for the adventures of Janine!!! I know you can't wait to see!!! LOL!!!

I am going to go now drink some wine and cry a little ....
I really haven't cried much but tonight as the kids and I were cuddling on the couch like we do every night I was crying. The kids asked me why I was crying? I told them that I just can't believe how fast they are growing.  Which is TRUE. Speed Racer looked at me and said "no matter how big I get Mommy I will always be your boyfriend." I had to bite my tongue so I wouldn't gush like a waterfall!!!

I know I'll be ok!!!

Neglectful

I know I have some nerve not blogging for awhile.
My excuses are as follows:
1. Vacation in Maine
2. Coming home and unpacking-it took me almost a week to get caught up on laundry and unpacking.
3.  I needed to take care of the kids and the house.

and my final excuse is that starting this year and for the next thirteen plus years I had to go school shopping.

I know they are only going to Pre-K but they require a lot of supplies and I had to buy times two.

Anyways, I am not here to talk about school and get myself upset. I am here to share our Maine vacation with you.

On Friday we departed for Worcester Massachusetts to break the trip up. It took us about 5-6 hours to get to our destination. On Saturday after we had breakfast and a dip in the pool we finally departed for Maine. We hit ALL kind of traffic plus the usual potty breaks and a stop in NH for no tax and cheap wine and liquor. We decided that once we were on Route 1 we would stop for lunch. Well we didn't find any place until almost Wissacaset. We founda  Roadhouse and everyone was nervous about going in there. (We-reminder we were vacationing with my brother Gav, his wife (we'll call her Auntie Am) and my niece O.

Like my Mom always told me NEVER judge a book by it's cover. The place didn't look like much from the outside but it was so nice inside and the food was pretty good too!!!
We were so happy with our belly's being full and almost to our house for the week. We just needed to get through Wissacaset. Damn small bridge and Red's Eats!! (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives destination)

At around 4:00ish we arrived at our Island cottage for the week. Once we got there we needed to unpack.
After we were done unpacking the last thing we wanted to do was make dinner. We knew that we wanted Lobster. Tommy and I haven't had lobster since the last time we were in Maine two years ago. I am a lobster snob. I will not eat a lobster unless it was just caught!! My brother Gav never had fresh lobster from Maine. The three of us were so happy with our decision to go to Miller's Lobster Wharf.

Miller's Lobster Wharf

The kids were so excited to be back in Maine.

The staff there introduced us to a blue lobster.

After dinner we headed back to the house for some playing in the yard.

Sunday was a rainy day, but we thought we would go and take a little walk around the island.
We saw this cool truck!!

My brother wanted me to take a picture of him and Auntie Am!!

The kids preferred to walk with their aunt, uncle, and cousin.
After our walk we headed to Rockland for the Lobsterfest. Once we arrived at the LobsterFest it started pouring. So, we sat under the tent for awhile and then decided to leave and hit some shops.
Dinner on Sunday was spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, and crabs. It was YUMMY!!
On Monday it started out overcast. So we decided to do some kayaking.
Tommy trying to get the kayak ready for the first crew to go out.

Gav and Speed Racer watching Tommy get to the kayak.

Ballerina and Tommy kayaked around the cove.

Tommy and Gav kayaked to the island.
Tommy and I kayaked out to the ocean. It was so nice and quiet!!

This is the back of the house. We ate a few dinners outside.
After the kayak rides we decided to pack a picnic and head into Camden.

Auntie Am and O enjoying the picnic and the view.

Speed Racer enjoyed the hills and ran around for awhile.
After the picnic and some running around we decided to go Blueberry Picking.

We noticed this one house.

This huge house had dolls in EVERY window. I mean EVERY!!!! Spooky, scary!!!

The blueberries were soooooo good!!!! We had a great time picking and eating them.

This was the view we looked at while we picked the blueberries.

O really enjoyed picking the blueberries and then eating them. This was a problem later when she thought she could do the same with flowers.

I got to check something off my 40 things to do before I turn 40!!!

After the picking we stopped at a winery and enjoyed some tasting. Well Gav and I did some tasting and everyone else enjoyed the farm animals.

The lady who runs the winery and farm told me that we could walk out to the vineyard to look at the grapes and check out their cattle. We thought why not. We were calling the cattle oreo cows.

Speed Racer was having a staring contest with one of the cows.

For dinner we decided to eat early and eat out at Cappy's.
I had some Clam Chowder which was the best Clam Chowder I've ever had.
Gav had a lobster roll. He thought it was awesome.
Tommy had chowder too!! We also enjoyed Allagash beer!! Brewed locally in Portland!!
After dinner and walking around in Camden we headed back home for a fire and some smores.

Tuesday was a beautiful day so we hit the beach. Birchwood State Park.

Speed Racer and I love to climb rocks. So we had a little Mommy and son time. It was  nice. We wanted to keep walking but I didn't want anyone to worry about us.

I think we should look into rock climbing for this little guy!!

So beautiful. The beach is sandy!! Don't let these rocks fool you!!

Ballerina striking a pose.

O taking a little nap. I wonder what she was thinking!!

A little creation made by Tommy!!

A big creation made by Tommy and the kids. Tommy and Ballerina spent most of the day making this!!!

A view of the water and the castle.

At one of the General Stores that we visited several times during our visit I saw my dream car.
You might be surprised by what my dream car is.

Turquoise Jeep Waggoner.
Love this car!!!

On Wednesday it was another rainy day. Tommy and Gav went fishing. Auntie Am and I decided to take the kids for a walk down to the the lobster wharf. We sat there for almost an hour watching people load and unload their boats. It was rather fascinating.

Herring used to catch lobster!!
After we were done we decided to go visit a lighthouse and winery.

Bench at the winery.

Porch with rocking chair. I really could live and work here!!

Look at this house. A small part is used for the winery and the rest of the house is residence to the lady who owns the winery.

Speed Racer walking up to the light house.

Owl's Head Lighthouse.

The light!! We walked up to the light and then the kids and I were afraid to go back down the ladder. Tommy carried the kids down and I held my breath while I climbed down the ladder.

For lunch we went to Owl's Head General Store which was recently voted the best burger in Maine by The Food Network. Well. when I saw that I knew we needed to visit this place for their burger!! It was one of the best burgers I've ever had!!!

On Thursday we took a Puffin and Nature boat ride out of Port Clyde. I was a two and half hour tour. When we left the weather was dismal. We were wondering if we would see sun before we left. The sun did come out!!

We learned about this boating school that lasts 5  or 14 days out in the water. They sleep, eat, and s#*t on this boat for all of those days. If you look in the front of the boat you will notice the guy doing number 2. My brother pointed this out after I took the picture!!

My niece looking into the window of the boat. I think my kids were a little sea sick because they wanted to sleep for the first hour of the tour!!

We saw a lot of lobster boats!!!

Ballerina looking for the puffins. We did see puffins!! A lot of them in fact.

We saw a lot of seals!!!

Two lighthouses and The Wyeth compound.

Speed Racer on the boat.

Same boating school from before with the sails up!!

Port Clyde!!

We had a great time. We laughed, we cried, shared stories from our childhood. It was a great week!! I was so happy that I got to spend time with my brother and his beautiful family!!

Everybody should get to spend time with their siblings!!!!
On Saturday morning we woke up at 2:00 am to leave for home. We did not want to sit in traffic on the way home. We stopped once for gas and breakfast. We arrived home at 9:30. So, we had the whole day to adjust to being at home and being away from sweet O!!!

I love vacation!!!
I also LOVE Maine. I am really thinking about moving up there. We all love it up there!!! We love the way life is in Maine. It's the way life should be!!!
