Cookie of the Week and Magazine

This week's Cookie is Lemon Sugar Snaps

I am really into the color yellow and I thought it would be nice to make some cookies with lemons as one of the ingredients.

I gathered all the ingredients and and the kids to help.

1 ¾ cups all purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cream of tartar

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar, plus additional for rolling

1 large egg

Fresh grated zest of 3 lemons

1 tbs. fresh lemon juice

In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar and set aside.

Using an electric mixer, beat together the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the egg, zest, and lemon juice, beat until combined.

Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed just until combined. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls, place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place additional sugar (about ½ cup) in a shallow bowl, and roll the dough balls in the sugar to cover completely. Place coated dough balls at least two inches apart on the prepared baking sheet and bake until the edges begin to turn golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

When the cookies have cooled place them in your favorite cookie jar.
Then pour your favorite cup of tea and have yourself a little sweet snack!!

Be sure to grab your favorite magazine!!

Turquoise

I realized the other day while I was at an antique store that I am suddenly into the color turquoise. I was drawn to everything turquoise. I will not be decorating the house in turquoise, but I will add a couple accents here and there.

Instead of buying all the turquoise beauties, I thought I would take some pictures and share them with you!!!

I love the vintage lines on this chair. I also like the face I see in the chair. Do you see it?

This was part of a turquoise trunk, I loved the owl on the front.

How cool is this lamp? I love it but too ornate for me!!!

The base of the lamp.

The shade of the lamp.

Metal pitcher.

Sewing Storage.

I usually don't notice pictures but this picture had me going back to look at it twice.
No go, I thought it was too expensive and I am not your typical jew. I do not "jew people down." LOL!!

I purchased this little beauty to add a little touch of turquoise to our room.

Now, for my all time favorite turquoise object.....

What girl doesn't love this box? I personally like a smaller box from here. LOL!!

I do have a few boxes from here BK (Before Kids) that I have saved. Maybe I will pull them out for some touches of turquoise here and there!!!

What's your favorite color??

Habitat Store and a Low-Fat Dessert

Yesterday the kids and I traveled to NJ to visit the Habitat for Humanity Store in Mine Hill, NJ.

If you've never heard about this place, it's a place you should become familiar with especially is you are remodeling.

Habitat’s ReStore resale outlets sell reusable and surplus building materials to the public

While every ReStore outlet is a little different, most focus on home improvement goods like furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances.

This is the second store I have visited and they are different. I think depending on the area depends on the type and quality of supples you will find. I saw a Pottery Barn sofa for a few hundred bucks that was in perfect condition. I didn't buy because I really want a sectional sofa!! Anthropology had donated a surplus of tile to the store. It was never used and it was $10 a case plus 20% off.
Give it a whirl you might find something you need for the house.

So, the other day I was visiting someone's blog and they posted about a delicious and two ingredient dessert. I had to look it up and see for myself. It really is just two ingredients and it is low-fat and a Weight Watcher's favorite.

Don't they look so good?

I have them in the cake stand!!!

Here is the super easy recipe!!

Yum Yum Brownie Muffins

(1 Muffin, or 3 minis - 181 calories, 3.5g fat, 37g carbs, 2g fiber, 2g protein -- PointsPlus™ value 5*)
This super-simple 2-ingredient recipe is a Weight Watchers Fave!

1 box devil's food cake mix

1 can solid pack pumpkin (15 oz.)

Directions:

Mix the two ingredients together. Don't add anything else that may be mentioned on the box, such as eggs, oil, or water. The mixture will be very thick and you will be tempted to add in other things to make the batter smoother. DO NOT DO THIS AS IT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING! Place batter into muffin tins (or mini muffin tins) lined with paper, or sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Makes 12 regular or 36 mini muffins.

I like how I am able to sneek something healthy into a dessert. The kids love them and so does Tommy. I have to say they are really good when you are craving something sweet!!

Flea Market Finds

As I mentioned yesterday, my parents and I headed to the Saylorsburg Flea Market. I try to go there once a month. To see what is going on and help stimulate the economy. LOL!!! My goal for this trip was to find things for my laundry room/craft room. I want to find containers to store my supplies. So take a seat put your feet up and see what I found!!

Photobucket

I found this big vintage tin for 75 cents!! I have plans to store my borax in here!!

Photobucket
I dug through some blocks to spell out our last name!! I thought it was a clever idea. I found two vintage towels that I thought I could use as a window valance or pillow covers!

Photobucket
I'm a sucker for a chicken or is it a rooster. I started collecting them years ago and stopped, but now that I want to have a barn theme. I might just pull them out!!!

Photobucket
I found this little glass jar that I plan to put above the washer and dryer. It will collect all the coins I find in the washer. Who says it doesn't pay to do laundry. When it is full I will treat myself to a manicure.

Photobucket
This is an old ice bucket. It was the first thing I saw when walked into the flea market. I love the colors!!! I love the poppies on the front!! I am going to put our laundry detergent in this!!

Photobucket
I found this vintage towel too. Do you notice a color scheme? My room will be painted white. Red will be the big color accent. I will also use the blue, green, and yellow as small accents.

Here is everything together. Can't you just see it on a shelf over my washer and dryer?!
Now for a funny story!!
Yesterday, I was making the kid's lunch. I could hear them upstairs in my room. I heard them playing house. I figured they were playing mommy and daddy. Their new thing!!
I called them down for lunch and I heard heels on the floor. I yelled "Ballerina are you suppose to be wearing Mommy's shoes"? She said "Mommy I'm wearing my shoes". I walked to the family room and saw this;

Photobucket
Speed Racer wearing my shoes. I love how he put together these shoes. I decided not to say anything to him. If he wants to wear my shoes so be it. I always dressed my brothers up as girls and they turned out right. I think that it helps boys understand women. That's why they are good husbands. So you two girls (you know who you are) Either your welcome or I'm sorry!! HAHA.
Have a great day!!
